John’s passion for shaping extraordinary places began in childhood, as he worked side by side with his family in their landscape architectural design-build business. From early days on construction teams to leading project delivery, John learned the value of hands-on craftsmanship, teamwork, and seeing projects through from the ground up.
Eager to expand his impact, John pursued a degree in Real Estate Design, Planning, and Construction, complemented by business studies. This academic foundation, combined with his practical experience, laid the groundwork for a remarkable career.
John was soon recruited by Ed Stone Junior and Associates, where he joined elite planning teams responsible for creating destination communities and luxury resorts worldwide. These formative years ignited his creativity and instilled a global perspective.

Under his leadership, his company evolved to manage the entire development lifecycle—from concept and design to construction and ongoing stewardship.

John’s expertise soon caught the attention of the Kohler Company, where he was appointed Executive Director for Real Estate and Hospitality. Working closely with Herb Kohler Jr., John oversaw seven divisions, from planning, development, and maintenance of world-class assets to conservation, agriculture, botanical gardens, and event planning on both national and international projects, further honing his skills in delivering excellence at every level. It was here that John received training in Five Diamond hospitality service standards.
His journey then led him to a Vice President role at Bermello Ajamil, where he was dispatched to Dubai to help plan mega projects such as The World Islands and Dubai Maritime City. John’s international portfolio expanded as he collaborated with leading organizations and investors throughout the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and India working on mixed-use communities, resorts, grand private homes, retail, destination, and entertainment projects. His ability to manage large, complex developments and lead diverse, multinational teams became his hallmark.
One of John’s most meaningful assignments was leading the creation of a 10,000 acre new city in Kandahar, Afghanistan—an ambitious project designed to offer safety, opportunity, and hope in a conflict zone.
This interconnected mixed‑use city was envisioned to unite diverse communities and income groups in a balanced, harmonious environment. Several green belts weave through the urban fabric—integrating retail, education, sports, offices, and light manufacturing—creating a sustainable city where residents could truly live, work, and play.
Success required assembling and leading high‑performing, multidisciplinary teams—bringing together architects, engineers, planners, and local experts—capable of navigating a diverse cultural landscape, regulatory environments, procurement, and technical challenges.
Under John’s leadership, these teams brought the President of Afghanistan’s ambitious vision to life, transforming it into a modern destination city and setting new standards for quality, innovation, and sustainability.
